"BREAKING the BONDS of BIAS" (B3)

Unconscious/Implicit Bias Seminar

Participants: Executives, managers or functional specialists who need a broader, more comprehensive perspective on diversity, inclusion, and how to lead across cultural differences.

Facilitator: Al Vivian, President & CEO of BASIC Diversity, Inc., or one of our approved trainers.

Duration: 1 Day or Half-Day

Process/Overview: People are genuinely good! As a result, most people do not discriminate or exclude others on purpose. Most exclusionary practices and diversity mishaps are unintentionally caused by unconscious biases (UCB’s). UCB’s are biases in judgment and/or behavior that result from subtle cognitive processes. They are universal, and they impact and are perpetrated by everyone. This seminar will help individuals and organizations identify and mitigate UCB’s.
Pursuits & Purpose

Build awareness about unconscious/implicit bias.

Develop understanding of the science of unconscious/implicit bias.

Identify the decisions and actions that may be influenced by unconscious/implicit bias and explore the impact they play in a workplace setting — especially related to productivity and talent management (hiring, promotions, salary, etc.).

Identify strategies to minimize and mitigate the influence of unconscious/implicit bias.

Payoffs & Results

Develop organization-wide awareness about the significance of the topic, thus creating initial desire to begin the necessary work.

Understanding the science of UCB’s helps participants understand the majority of diversity mishaps are unintentional, thus developing comfort to discuss and deal with unintentional bias.

Helping participants understand the significant negative impact unconscious bias can have on the organization heightens the desire to develop effective strategies to mitigate unconscious biases.

Once strategies are created, participants will be empowered with tools to mitigate the negative impact UCBs can have on the organization. Additionally, participants will now have the desire to begin their individual developmental journey. This will result in a truly engaged and inclusive workplace.
